Khajuraho Airport code is (IATA: HJR, ICAO: VAKJ). The airport covers an area of 590 acres. The Khajuraho Airport opened in 1978, facilitating tourism to the nearby UNESCO world heritage site temple complex. In August 2013, the central government announced that the Khajuraho Airport would receive a new terminal. Built at a cost of about ₹90 crore (US$13 million), the building was inaugurated on 23 January 2016 with officials from the state and union governments in attendance. The airport has one asphalt runway, 01/19, with dimensions 2,274 by 45 metres (7,461 ft × 148 ft).
